Great Wall welcomed a swing festival last weekend (April 16th to April 18th). The swing dance, which is popular around the world, is a style of jazz that originated in the US early last century. And this year, it was the forth time that the Swing Beijing club organized this festival.
From Friday to Sunday, participants had experienced various activities. On Friday night, a party was held to mark the start of the festival. On the second day, Saturday, people joined an “Old Hollywood” masque that they could dress up as movie stars of the 1920s and 40s. And people in the whole day of Sunday had dancing on the Mutianyu Great Wall with joys and funs.
This sport had already spread in Asia during the past decade. And the different styles of swing dance also sprung up in South Korea, Vietnam and Singapore.
"It's more about meeting people, dancing with different people and socializing. It's a social event," said Valeria Tyapaeva, also known as Leru, an instructor with Swing Beijing.
